Reddit user plsmiyazak posted a painting his girlfriend made of the Abysswalker, side-profiled to show off the fearsome cut of his armor and the flow of his helmet plume, a detail that could be a nod to the way his attacks often send him surging towards the player. The background is a charcoal gray, a golden arc haloing Artorias’s profile, providing contrast against the darkness-shrouded, possessed knight of the popular Dark Souls DLC.

The Artorias of the Abyss DLC is set hundreds of years before the events of the first Dark Souls, though the location and some characters are alluded to in the original game. The player finds themselves in Oolacile, a land under threat of being consumed by the Abyss, and as the Chosen Undead, the player must save Princess Dusk of Oolacile from Manus, Father of the Abyss. This quest for the Chosen Undead includes more details about the lost land of Oolacile, as well as a harrowing battle with Knight Artorias.
The cursed knight saw a rise in popularity as a character for many reasons, with some fans even cosplaying as Artorias. The painting by plsmiyazak’s girlfriend is an artistic embodiment of the little details from Artorias’s adventure, from his darkness-corrupted limb to the golden arc that may symbolize his Wolf Ring.
Many details can be gleaned from the painting as homage to the fallen knight, though one might wonder where the greatsword of Artorias might be in the picture. In the battle against the Chosen Undead, it’s his primary weapon and can deal savage damage if the player isn’t quick enough to move out of the way. However, with the weight of his past stacked on his armored shoulders, Artorias shouldn’t be blamed if he’s resting for a moment before his next fight with the darkness.
Dark Souls is available to play on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, and Xbox One
